CityJet, the airline that flies from the heart of London, announced the launch of a new summer route to Brive - Valley of the Dordogne, one of UK’s best-loved French holiday destinations. Until 12 September 2010, CityJet will operate three weekly flights to Brive from its hub at London City Airport becoming the first airline to offer direct flights from the UK to this popular leisure destination. Prices start from £59 one way, including all taxes.
At the northern tip of the Lot department, the Dordogne steers a pleasant course in luxurious countryside, where water, stone and history are inextricably mixed. The road follows the river where in years gone by the barges carried wine, leather goods and chestnuts towards Bordeaux.
An active witness of the Hundred Years War, the Dordogne invites you to linger in the delicate interlacing of small fortified hamlets along its banks (Carennac, Floirac, Creysse, etc.), to enjoy the large amphitheatres (Montvalent) and the shade of its cliffs revealing here and there a village (Gluges).
If the Dordogne allows us to get away from its seductive glamour, it is to enable us to visit the surrounding area with the walled town of Bretenoux, Souillac with its Byzantine style abbey church, the medieval Martel, the illuminated caves of Lacave, and of course the famous Gouffre de Padirac and the vertiginous town of Rocamadour.
