and not forgetting the Musée de l'Armagnac.
After Condom, the Baïse flows close to Larressingle, a gorgeous little fortified medieval town surrounded by vineyards.
Before reaching Valence-sur-Baïse, an adorable 13th century 'bastide' town built on a rocky outcrop, the river runs near Flaran Abbey. Founded in 1151, this Cistercian abbey, a staging post on the St James's Way pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, is a building of remarkably harmonious architectural styles dating from the 12th to the 18th century.
The abbey is home to the Gers Heritage Centre and holds several exhibitions throughout the year including a permanent exhibition of works from the Simonow Collection (by Monet, Matisse, Picasso, etc.).
